On 4 September, 1991, Police came to be familiar with the whereabouts of Balwinder Singh Jattana. They had kept a Rs. 16 Lakh cash reward on Balwinder Singh's head. In the early evening of that very day, Balwinder Singh Jattana and Charanjeet Singh Channa were driving towards Sadhugarh town when they saw a police designated spot. They ran into the close by fields and were killed in an encounter with the Police. The Sikh Community sees Balwinder Jattana as a significant purpose for the SYL Canal Project being stopped back then.
