GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING THE THESIS
As enshrined in the Acts, Regulations and Ordinances of the Mandsaur University, Mandsaur, the objectives of the research, in general, encompass the discovery of new facts or techniques or correlation of facts already known, through analytical or experimental approach or both, while demonstrating a quality potential as to make a definite contribution to the advancement of knowledge useful to the society and the scholar's ability to undertake sustained research in future.
The purpose of this manual is to provide broad guidelines to the Ph.D. Candidates for the preparation of the thesis.

Candidates submitting the thesis for the Ph.D. degree in Mandsaur University is required to follow the following aspects regarding paper size, text layout etc., except in special cases in which concerned faculty dean is satisfied that it will not be possible to comply with the requirements of these rules:
1. LAYOUT & FORMAT
- Size of the paper should be A4 (8.5" x 11.5") except for maps, drawing, graphs on which no restriction is placed.
- Font size & style = Main heading Times new roman-14 and Bold, (If thesis is in Hindi Language then Font style will be Mangal font or Unicode with font size 16)
- Sub heading -Times New Roman 12 and Bold. (For Hindi Font Size 14).
- Text Font - Times New roman 12. (For Hindi Language Font Size 14)
- Page Margin – 1 inch, Gutter position left 0.5 inch.
- Page Alignment – Justified.
- Line Spacing – 1.5
2. PRELIMINARIES OF THESIS:
- Cover Page & Title page (Annexure 1).
- Certificate by Supervisor (Annexure 2).
- Certificate by Co –Supervisor. (Annexure 2).
- Copyright (Annexure 6)
- NOC or approval (Given by Guide with Signature & Seal of Department to be submitted in single hard copy).
- Declaration by students. (on Stamp of 100/-, Annexure 3).
- Acknowledgements (Not more than 2 pages).
- Abstract of Thesis (1200 Words or not exceed more than 3 pages).
- Table of Contents.
- List of Figures.
- List of Tables.
- List of Illustrations/ Symbol and abbreviations.
- Plagiarism report (URKUND) given by Ph.D. Coordinator.
- List of Publication.
- Full Paper (Published only)
- Proofs of Journals (Journal is UGC indexed) and
- Paper presented during conferences along with certificate and Abstract book or conference proceeding with ISBN No.
- Any Additional Documents or Certificates [For Ayurveda, Pharmacy, Applied Science and Agriculture].
- Certificate or Letters of Plant Authentification.
- Certificate of Institutional Animal Ethical Committee (IAEC)/ Institutional Ethical Committee (IEC)/ CTRL Registration Letters
- Chemical Analysis Letters [If any study conducted].
- Spectral Analysis Letters.
- Letter for In-vitro studies (Cell line or other such type study conducted outside).
If thesis is in Hindi language than all Annexure (1 to 8, except No dues) should be converted to Hindi language. (Only Applicable for Library Science/Physical Education and Education department).

3. SUMMARY SUBMISSION
- The thesis and research summary should be prepared as per guidelines. In case of any problems, the supervisor(s) should be contacted.
- One hard copy along with soft copy of Research Summary should be submitted. (Summary front Annexure 8).
- Summary should be limited to 15 to 30 pages only.
- Summary should contain Major part of Discussion and Conclusion and it is restricted for Introduction, Review of Literature, Hypothesis, Objective & Research Methodology.
4. THESIS CHAPTERIZATION
(FOR MEDICAL, LIFE SCIENCE, PHARMACY, ENGINEERING, AGRICULTURE, AYURVEDA, AND APPLIED SCIENCES)
- Introduction.
- Review of Literature should contain Gap in literature survey and conclusion [Cross Citation/Referencing should be as per Harvard like format].
- Material & Methods/Experimental Work.
- Results.
- Discussion & Conclusions.
- Implications/Recommendations and Suggestions (If Any).
- Bibliography.
- Appendices/Annexure (IR/NMR Graphs/ Any tool and technique/Papers and conference certificates as mentioned in preliminaries).
(FOR MANAGEMENT, ARTS, EDUCATION, SOCIAL SCIENCE & HUMANITIES)
- Introduction
- Hypothesis/ Conceptual framework
- Review of Literature should contain Gap in literature survey and conclusion [Cross Citation/Referencing should be as per Harvard like format].
- Research Gap
- Data Interpretation, Results & Discussion
- Summary, Findings, Suggestions and Conclusions
- Implications/Recommendations (If Any)
- Bibliography.
- Appendices/Annexure. (Questionnaire/any tool and techniques)
- Papers/ Certificate of Conferences with Abstract.
5. SIZE OR LENGTH OF THE THESIS
- Length of the thesis depends upon the work; however, it should not be less than 120 pages for all disciplines except in case of Faculty of Management Studies should be kept between 250-350 pages.
- Likewise, cover layout is also specified. Affiliation of the supervisor could be added but it should not contain administrative designation like Head of the Department/ Dean, etc.
6. SUBMISSION OF PRETHESIS
- The candidate should fill the checklist and sign the Certificate of Thesis Submission (Annexure 4, 11 & 12). The Certificate should be signed and submitted in duplicate. One copy after stamping by the concerned University official with due entries will be returned to the candidate.
- The candidate should attach an Abstract of the thesis not exceeding 1200 words with key words.
- One hard copy of Thesis should be printed on both side and submit with spiral binding.
- A CD with exactly identical contents in pdf format along with appendices, certificates and papers. The candidate should ensure that the CD can be opened on any system (Annexure 7)
Following certificates shall be submitted along with the thesis:
- ‘No Dues Certificate’ from the Dean and Co. Guide of the Concerned Faculty where the research work was done.
- Research Papers published/ accepted of the candidate relevant to the research work reported in the thesis.
- Research papers should be verified by the Guide as per MU & UGC norms. (Annexure 11)

PLAGIARISM POLICY IN THE PURVIEW OF UGC NORM (Ref: published in REGD. NO. D. L.-33004/99, Gazette of India, New Delhi, the 23rd July, 2018)
- Plagiarism will be checked by Ph.D. Coordinator with URKUND.
- As per UGC Guideline, 10% is permissible.
- After checking plagiarism, report will be forwarded through mail to Guide and Scholar.
- Scholar need to add certificate of plagiarism (Annexure 10) in the thesis. And submit the application in single copy to Ph.D. Research cell.
7. FINAL SUBMISSION OF THESIS
- After the successful completion of Pre thesis Viva-voce examination and with approval of the DRB Members, the candidate should finalize the thesis incorporating all the suggestions made during the pre thesis evaluation process by the internal and external examiners and the suggestions emerging during Viva-voce examinations including modifications in the title of the thesis. (If requested in DRC). Title should be same as per the DRC letter.
7.1 Submission for evaluation: -
- The candidate should fill the checklist and sign the Certificate of Thesis Submission for Evaluation (Annexure 5). The Certificate should be signed and submitted in duplicate. One copy after stamping by the concerned University official with due entries will be returned to the candidate.
For Evaluation Purposes, a candidate for Ph.D. degree is required to submit
- Four hard copies of the thesis either printed on both sides or single side and spirally bound using flexible cover of thick white art paper.
- The cover page should be printed as per specifications for the title page (Annexure 1).
- A four copies CD with exactly identical contents in pdf format along with appendices, certificates and papers. The candidate should ensure that the CD can be opened on any system (Annexure 7).
- Certificate of Final Thesis Submission (Annexure 5) signed by the candidate and the Supervisor(s) certifying that all the corrections suggested by the External & Internal Examiners, at the time of Pre thesis Viva – voce have been incorporated, the thesis has been prepared as per MU guidelines, due credit to other researchers have been appropriately accorded and no part of the thesis is copied from any other source.
7.2 Final Submission
- After the successful completion of Viva-voce examination and with approval of the Viva- voce board, the candidate should finalize the thesis incorporating all the suggestions/corrections during Viva-voce examinations in Final Bound thesis.
- Declaration to be given by the Candidate on a non-judicial Stamp paper of Rs 100/- and verified by a Notary (Submit original stamp in one copy of final thesis and Xerox copy of stamp will be attached in remaining copies of thesis).
Following should then be submitted:
- The final thesis should be printed on good quality white paper not less than 80 gsm and hard bound as per specifications.
- The cover page should be printed as per specifications for the title page (Annexure 1), it will include month and year of final submission.
- 5 or 6 (If any Co guide) copies of thesis should be submitted along with CD.
- 5 or 6 copies of CD with exactly identical contents in pdf format along with appendices, certificates and papers. The candidate should ensure that the CD can be opened on any system.
- Thesis should be cloth bound/Plastic coated/ handmade paper material with embossed in permanent contrast colour. The side back of the thesis should also carry the title, name of candidate and month and year of final submission.
Candidates should submit Final thesis (After final Viva-voce) in the following specific colors on cover page.
